Congregation B'nai Israel

Congregation B’nai Israel is a longstanding cornerstone of Jewish life in the Greater Bridgeport area, founded over 150 years ago, but we also focus on the future after a recent expansion and renovation including a new chapel, a new social pavilion, and additional classrooms. It is one of the most beautiful facilities you will find for miles, designed to ensure access for all to every portion of the synagogue including the bema, chapel and classrooms. Yet what truly makes us special are the people who belong here.

Our members represent the entire spectrum of the Jewish community. While most were raised in the Reform movement, a significant number of families and individuals for whom our synagogue is a spiritual home come from more traditional households. Still others came to Judaism later in life, either alone or after meeting a Jewish spouse and raising a Jewish family. And many interfaith families find a welcoming home here. Proudly, Congregation B’nai Israel is a gateway to Judaism for all.

Congregation B’nai Israel is a religious center for prayer, learning, celebration, and community. We seek to enrich the lives of our members, contribute to the continuance and vitality of the Jewish people, and commit to Tikkun olam – repairing the world. We strive to offer all members of our community a range of opportunities to express their Judaism.

Congregation B’nai Israel, founded in 1858, seeks to be a vibrant Reform synagogue dedicated to the perpetuation of Jewish life and values within the framework of contemporary American Judaism. This synagogue strives to serve God and the Jewish people by creating a supportive environment which contributes to the education and spiritual growth of its members and encourages its members to perform meaningful mitzvot. Central to this mission is the fostering of a strong sense of community among an intergenerational and diverse membership. By service to the Jewish community locally, in Israel, and worldwide, as well as to the non-Jewish community, we dedicate ourselves to the concept of Tikkun olam, the repairing of the world.
