Position Summary:
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for a full-time Teaching Lab Supervisor. This position requires an individual with a Bachelor of Science in one of the physical sciences, preferably in physics, or engineering. This position provides technical support for all of the introductory physics and astronomy courses. The primary areas of responsibility include setting up demonstrations for these courses, advising the instructors, teaching them how to use the demonstrations, and helping with the demonstrations in class as requested. The Teaching Lab Supervisor will be responsible for reviewing the current demonstrations, developing a plan for regular maintenance and modernization of current demonstrations, and implementing the plan. The successful candidate must have experience and capabilities not only related to physics demonstrations, but with computer and modern projection technology as well, and be responsible for setting up and coordinating maintenance of this technology. Technical help with teaching labs may also be required. The individual also acts as the facility manager for Regener Hall. Supervision of work-study students may be involved. The candidate is also expected to participate in our open house demo shows for the public and provide technical support for the departmental commencement.

Additional Requirements: The working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. However, early arrival may be needed a few times a month for classroom preparation and set up. A few times a year the public demo show and our commencement require presence after-hours or on a weekend day.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
