Perform under minimal supervision all aspects of installation, alteration, demolition, maintenance and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, assemblies, and associated materials and equipment on all types of projects within the electrical construction industry. The Journeyman must demonstrate the mechanical aptitude, mathematical skills, communication skills, and computer literacy commensurate to the satisfactory completion of position's primary duties and responsibilities


  1. Directs work of all assigned to supervise.
  2. Possess strong expertise in all aspects of trade related materials, components, equipment, systems, methods of installation, safety procedures, safe work practices, trade related calculations, blueprint and drawing interpretation, and trouble shooting.
  3. Operate any hand tools, power tools, and equipment necessary to perform all trade-associated assignments.
  4. Effectively communicate with peers, crew, project supervision, and other trades.
  5. Proceed with work from plans and specifications, supervising crews.
  6. Coordinate and complete multiple tasks/assignments involving all aspects of the trade via verbal and written instructions, field sketches, schematics, one line diagrams, and blueprint reference. Directs, monitors, and works alongside a crew in such a way as to ensure a safe and timely completion of assignment.
  7. Instruct employees assigned to him/her in the correct operation of tools and equipment, safe work practices, electrical principles, and applicable NEC.
  8. Identify and schedule all tools and materials needed for assignment.
  9. Accurate completion of all assignment-related paperwork.
  10. Evaluate employee’s work performance under his/her direction.
  11. Troubleshoot and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment.
  12. Utilize NEC codebook as needed.
  13. Investigate or assist in investigation and reporting of near misses, incidents, and injuries involving jobsite employees.
  14. Comprehend, abide by, and enforce Corbins Electric/customer policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Report all violations and incidents to supervisor.
  15. Perform other project related duties and assignments as directed.
  16. May work at a level other than Journeyman.

WORKING CONDITIONS – The position requires:

  1. Working in extreme weather conditions and elements, indoor or outdoor, including heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, and snow depending on job location.
  2. Working on or around slippery or uneven surfaces.
  3. Working in and around exposures typical of a heavy construction site such as heavy equipment, vehicular traffic, and extreme noise levels.
  4. Working from various heights via ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other safe work platforms and areas.
  5. Working in and around restricted/confined spaces such as; manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, clean rooms, and raised metal floors.
  6. Working in and around ditches, trenches, and excavations.
  7. Working around storage containers, transmission raceways, and manufacturing equipment containing chemicals or toxic materials.



PHYSICAL STANDARDS – The position requires:


    1. Wearing personal tool belt at all times on the jobsite.
    2. Lifting 50 pounds, unassisted, frequently throughout the day.
    3. Completing a full day’s assignments involving one or more of the following: bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching over head, and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
    4. Digging trenches and excavations, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
    5. Safe operation of two-handed tools/equipment such as cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, and jack hammers.
    6. Safe operation of aerial and personnel lifts at heights.
    7. Access all levels of jobsite work area even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
    8. Wearing any/all personal protective equipment at all times as required by the specific task: eye and face protection, steel toe over the ankle leather work boots, hand protection, head protection, respirator, arc flash protection, etc.
    9. Operating company vehicles with manual or automatic transmission.
    10. Utilizing construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
    11. Working a 40 hour work week, with overtime and off-hour shifts as required.
    12. Good hearing, normal or corrected.
    13. Good vision, normal or corrected.
    14. Positive identification of wiring colors.
